Megali Ammos is the "heartbeat" of Skiathos beaches for those staying in the main town. Stretching for nearly a kilometer, it offers golden sand and a vibrant atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot if you want to jump into the sea just minutes after your morning coffee in the port.
The water here is crystal clear and has been awarded the **Blue Flag** for years. The seabed is sandy and deepens very slowly, which is why you will see many families with toddlers here. During peak July and August, it gets crowded early, so try to arrive before 10:00 AM to secure a front-row sunbed.
If you are staying in Skiathos Town, simply walk towards the South-West (follow the coastal road past the primary school). It’s a pleasant 10-15 minute walk. Alternatively, take the island bus and get off at **Stop 4 (Acropolis)** or **Stop 5**. Both lead directly to different parts of the beach.
If you want the best lunch with a view, visit Taverna thessaloniki. It’s family-run and their grilled octopus is famous. Also, notice the planes flying over; they are low enough to be exciting but high enough not to be deafening like at Xanemos beach.
Emergency Info: The Main Medical Center is located in the town, just 1.2km away. Police and Fire services are also reachable within a 5-minute drive from here.
